As you are aware the River Medway has been in flood for many months. As a result of this continued high flow, the river has experienced the following issues:
The Environment Agency are working hard to reinstate the navigation to a fit for purpose state. Below is a list of sites where there are issues and when we anticipate them being rectified. Please keep an eye on this page for further updates.
- Loss of riverbanks (specifically in the areas of Tonbridge and East Peckham)
- Excessive mobilisation of ballast and silt reducing navigation draft and blocking lock gates and sluice gate inlets.
- Fallen and "still at risk" trees.
Allington Lock - OPEN
Allington to East Farleigh - beware of obstructions at Tovil. Please pass between the two buoys
East Farleigh Lock - OPEN
East Farleigh to Teston - OPEN
Teston Lock - OPEN
Teston to Hampstead Lock - OPEN
Hampstead Lock and Hampstead Canal to Anchor Sluice - OPEN
Anchor Sluice to Sluice Weir Lock - PASSABLE WITH CARE. Stick to mid channel. Shoals around the Brambridges bends and just below the lock. Please keep in between yellow buoys where placed. Dredging works will continue here for at least 3 more weeks. Please
Sluice Weir Lock to Tonbridge - PASSABLE WITH CARE. Stick to mid channel and low speed. Look out for any buoys marking hazards.
Town Lock - open
